Built for the Australian Working Tariff
Tariffly gives Australian brokers the full 8-digit tariff item and 2-digit statistical code, the general duty rate, and the free-trade-agreement and concession notes, straight from the published Working Tariff.
What an Australian entry needs, and what Tariffly fills in
An import declaration lodged through the Integrated Cargo System needs more than a 6-digit HS code. Here is each piece, and whether Tariffly drafts it.
| Field | What Tariffly does |
|---|---|
| 6-digit HS subheading | Suggested for every invoice line, with the General Rule of Interpretation it used, the alternatives it ruled out and the question to ask when the description is thin. |
| 8-digit tariff item (Schedule 3) | Chosen from the real items under that subheading in the current Working Tariff. When only one item exists, it is set automatically; when several exist, Tariffly picks the most likely one, shows its reason and marks the confidence. |
| 2-digit statistical code and unit | Chosen from the statistical codes listed under the item, with the unit of quantity the ABF expects (No, kg, L, pairs and so on). |
| General rate of duty | Shown for the chosen item exactly as published (Free, 5%, or the specific rates for alcohol, tobacco and fuel), together with any other rates listed, such as DCS and DCT developing-country rates. |
| Free trade agreement preference | From the country of origin on the line, Tariffly names the agreements that may apply (ChAFTA, JAEPA, KAFTA, AUSFTA, A-UKFTA, AANZFTA, CPTPP, RCEP, IA-CEPA, AI-ECTA, TAFTA, MAFTA, SAFTA, A-HKFTA, PAFTA, ACl-FTA, ANZCERTA, PACER Plus, Australia-UAE CEPA) and reminds the broker that preference needs the origin rules met and a valid origin document. |
| Tariff Concession Orders | A one-click link to the TCOs for the chosen item on the ABF site, so the broker can check whether a concession applies and record it in the broker note. |
| Anti-dumping and biosecurity | Flagged on the line when the goods and origin are of a kind commonly subject to dumping or countervailing measures, DAFF import conditions, treatment certificates or BMSB seasonal measures. |
| Valuation inputs | Invoice terms, currency, invoice date, country of export and transport details are extracted and checked across the documents, with a specific warning when the incoterm, valuation date or delivery address is unclear, which are the ABF’s most common error types after classification. |
| Duty, GST and permits | Your customs system calculates duty and GST on the value of the taxable importation and handles permits. Tariffly exports the approved lines in CSV or JSON for you to lodge. |
Why this matters right now
- 32% of sampled import declaration lines had an error in the ABF’s 2024–25 compliance monitoring, up from 30% the year before.
- Tariff classification was the single most common error: 444 lines, almost four times the previous year’s count. The ABF puts most of them down to insufficient documentation.
- A false or misleading statement that causes a duty shortfall can attract an infringement notice of 45 penalty units (A$14,850) for a company, or 75% of the shortfall, whichever is greater.
- Section 240 of the Customs Act requires the owner to keep the commercial documents for five years. Tariffly keeps the documents, every draft, every edit and every approval together, ready to export.

Every code your team approves is remembered. The same product gets the same code next time, and a different suggestion is flagged before it reaches the entry.
How it worksHonest limits
- Tariffly is not a lodgement system and does not connect to the ICS. It prepares and checks the entry; you lodge through your existing system. See how it fits.
- Rates shown are the general rates published in Schedule 3. Preferential rates, TCOs, dumping duties, GST and the import processing charge are for your system and your broker to apply.
- The tariff data is refreshed from the ABF site; every line records the tariff version it was drafted against. Check the ABF notices for changes that post-date it.
- Only an ABF Tariff Advice is binding. For contested lines, Tariffly gives you the reasoning and alternatives to put in an application.
